WikiLeaks Blockbuster: @HillaryClinton hates Catholics, Southerners, and ‘needy Latinos’

capture

Long before Hillary Clinton called millions of Americans a “basket of deplorables,” her top campaign advisers and liberal allies openly mocked Catholics, Southerners and a host of other groups, according to newly released emails that offer a stunning window into the vitriol inside the Clinton world.

The emails, published by WikiLeaks also show Clinton campaign officials and Democratic leaders disparaging supporters of Sen. Bernard Sanders as “self-righteous” whiners, calling Hispanic party leaders such as Bill Richardson “needy Latinos,” labeling CNN anchor Jake Tapper “a d—k”.

The sheer number of insults in the email trove has left the Clinton campaign unable or unwilling to respond, though they also haven’t denied their authenticity.

The Clinton campaign’s biggest problem may be its assault on Catholics. Prominent Catholic organizations called on Clinton campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri to resign after the surfacing of messages showing her making fun of the faith.

Scathing DOJ review exposes the #racist @SFPD

capture

The San Francisco Police Department got what it deserved as the Department of Justice laid out its case against perhaps the most corrupt police department in America.

The review cemented the negative perceptions about a police force whose reputation has been damaged in recent years by the conviction of officers for constitutional violations, the discovery of racist text messages sent by officers and a series of fatal shootings that eventually unseated a popular chief in May.

The assessment by the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services of the department found troubles with transparency, accountability, bias, data collection, internal oversight and hiring, as well as obstacles from the police union to implement reforms.

In all, the initial assessment offered 94 findings and more than 200 recommendations, which are part of the collaborative review request made in January by Mayor Ed Lee and former Chief Greg Suhr when he headed the department.

This is all lawyer speak. But it has confirmed what we’ve been saying all along.

The review found that the majority of fatal use-of-force incidents involved people of color. It also found that the department does not adequately investigate, track or keep data on uses of force in general.

It found that people of color are more often stopped and searched compared to their proportion of the population, and that there are indications of implicit and institutional bias against minorities.

More lawyer speak for “the SFPD is a bunch of racist jerks.”

Orange County jail shakes down families of prisoners

capture

A lawsuit, filed in Orange County Superior Court last week, comes amid a national concern over the sky-high phone rates charged at many U.S. lockups.

The lawsuits seek an injunction banning the commission often tied to jailhouse phone calls, which vary by county, as well as an undetermined amount in damages and restitution.

These charges are an illegal tax on the poorest of the poor, who are trying to get by without their loved ones.

Orange County contracts with Alabama-based Global Tel-Link, the nation’s largest provider of calling systems in jails and prisons.

In return for operating the phone systems, Global Tel-Link pays the county a minimum commission of $4.3 million a year, or 97.5 percent of the monthly gross phone revenue if that number is greater.

Under the contract, local collect calls are a $4 flat rate, while local calls using a debit card cost 50 cents per minute.

Non-local, interstate and international calls can cost up to 69 cents per minute, and there are additional charges of up to $14.99 for accepting collect calls on cell phone or landlines without a prepaid account.

Lt. Mark Stichter, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s spokesman, declined to comment on the lawsuit, citing the ongoing litigation.

California’s prisons dropped the commission from phone calls in 2010, according to the lawsuit. The prisons currently charge 9 cents a minute for local calls and 13 cents for non-local.

#BS lawyer says killer cops who executed mentally ill Sacramento man are really nice guys

capture2

The mentally ill man brutally executed by two Sacramento police officers in July yelled “Come on bitch” and “turned and confronted them armed with a knife” immediately prior to being shot, according to the officers’ attorney.

Speaking on behalf of officers John Tennis and Randy Lozoya, attorney Judith Odbert said in a three-page memo, “The character assassination of these two officers who have dedicated their lives to the protection of this community is unwarranted. They are not racist.”

That’s a load of b.s. In our opinion, not only are these two cops racists, they are brutal murderers who deserve to be behind bars. No amount of expensive lawyering can change the truth…we all saw the video.

Black Lives Matter Sacramento has been calling for greater investigation in the Mann case and other police shootings in recent months.

“It’s a systemic issue and it comes from racism and bias in the police department,” said Tanya Faison of Black Lives Matter Sacramento.

Even in Orange County, voters flee the hapless @CaGOP

capture

Sorry Bob Dornan, Dana Rohrabacher, and Todd Spitzer.  Race-baiting and demagoging isn’t getting California Republicans what it used to.

Democrats continue to close the gap with Republicans in Orange County’s voter registration, with the GOP advantage now under 5 percentage points for the first time in 36 years.

The Republican lead has been shrinking since 1990, when the edge was 22 points. But the pace of change has accelerated considerably this year.

From 1990 through 2015, the margin shrank by an average of just under 1 point annually. Since February, the lead has narrowed from 8 percent to 4.7 percent.

For Democrats who have toiled for decades in what was long touted as the nation’s most Republican county, the prospect of gaining the upper hand is creating a palpable excitement.

Republicans are now 38.9 percent of county voters, an all-time low. Democrats are at 34.2 percent, their highest since 1994. Voters with no party preference account for 23 percent, down from the all-time high of 23.6 percent last year.

Republicans still haven’t figured out that being racist jerks is no way to attract voters. Forget the Grand Old Party…. it’s time to call it the Gone Old Party.

Maybe they should have been nicer to all those Latinos and Asians who have moved into California. Oooops!

Damning video and audio indicts Sacramento Police in the murder of #JosephMann

capture2

The brutally racist Sacramento Police Department fought hard to keep any audio or video of what happened to a mentally ill homeless man away from the public.

Reasonable people suspected the two officers executed Joseph Mann in July under questionable circumstances on Del Paso Boulevard.

But with enhanced audio from dashcam footage that police released on Sept. 20 – only after The Sacramento Bee forced the department’s hand by obtaining surveillance footage from a private citizen – we now know that two officers first tried to run him over.

Then the fired 14 bullets into him.

Enjoy your Police State.

The #Islamics blow up dozens in Baghdad

capture

You need more evidence that Islam is the problem…well here you go.

Separate suicide bombings ripped through busy commercial areas in Shiite-dominated neighborhoods of the Iraqi capital on Tuesday, killing at least 17 civilians.

The deadliest attack took place in the eastern New Baghdad neighborhood, where a bomber approached a gathering of construction workers and set off his explosives-laden vest, killing 11 civilians. At least 28 were wounded.

Hours later, another suicide bomber blew himself up in an outdoor market in the southwestern neighborhood of Bayaa, killing six shoppers and wounding 21 others.

The #SFFD – A sexual harasser’s paradise

capture

Hey SFFD, when you act like jerks and bigots, you’re not our “heroes”.

For example, when a female firefighter scored a choice spot at a station in San Francisco’s Chinatown, she was immediately met with resistance by her new male colleagues, including one who asked her an intimidating question: “Do you know how difficult your time is going to be?”

A document obtained by San Francisco Chronicle outlines details from an independent investigation into just how miserable her life was made in the “male-dominated” culture of Station 2 at 1340 Powell St., one of the busiest firehouses in the city.

The question presented to the female firefighter before her first shift even began was the start of a systematic harassment campaign intended to drive her out of the firehouse, the investigation concluded.

But the months of harassment she endured resulted in Chief Joanne Hayes-White’s recent decision to reassign the entire command staff away from the station, blaming “deficiencies in leadership” for creating a “hostile work environment based on gender.”

Ya think???

This “hostile work environment included urinating in this poor woman’s bed and leaving feces on the floor of the women’s bathroom at the station.

After the woman reported it, her co-workers retaliated by branding her a “rat.”

No firefighters from Station 2 were fired or suspended.

Hunters Point riots: San Francisco’s racist history

capture

At 2:30 p.m. on a sweltering Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1966, three teenagers were joyriding in a stolen 1958 Buick through Hunters Point in San Francisco. The car stalled on Griffith Street near Oakdale Avenue, just as a police cruiser approached.

The three youths — Darrell Mobley, 14; Clifton Bacon, 15; and Matthew Johnson, 16 — bolted. Mobley ducked down behind a parked car. The other two ran. All were African American.

Alvin Johnson, a white patrol officer with 23 years’ experience on the force, gave chase in his cruiser and tried to cut off Bacon and Matthew Johnson at Navy Road. According to an official city report, he called out to Matthew Johnson, “Stop! Hold it, or I’m going to shoot!”

As the unarmed teenager ran down a hill near a housing project, the patrolman fired four shots, one of which hit the boy in the heart. He died within minutes.

The next three days would see the worst eruption of racial violence in San Francisco since anti-Chinese riots almost 90 years before.

So you see, racism and extra-Constitutional executions have a long history with the San Francisco PD.

2nd Amendment to the rescue in Sacramento…Asians, abandoned by white elites, defend themselves

capture

Asian residents of south Sacramento say they’ve formed their own armed patrols to respond to a wave of robberies that has terrorized the community, where business owners report a steep drop in customers because people are afraid to go out after dark.

Good for them! Thankfully we still have the 2nd Amendment.

Restaurants and supermarkets in south Sacramento are closing early, with some managers escorting customers to their vehicles to prevent robberies in the parking lot. Some business owners have resorted to layoffs, as revenue declines hit 20 to 30 percent on average.

“I don’t blame people for not coming out,” restaurateur Joe Liao said in Mandarin on Monday. “If they go out to eat, they have two things to worry about – robbery in the parking lot or burglary at home.”

Some Chinese community leaders have formed a task force to combat the issue themselves, frustrated by the slow response from white elite civic leaders who have never really cared about Sacramento’s Asian community.

The volunteers have launched armed patrols in south Sacramento and respond to calls for assistance from those using WeChat, a popular social media app that originated in China.

“This is a lifeline for Chinese people. This is the only way they can call for help,” said Wei Xin Yang, one of the organizers of the WeChat group.

Not a very good reflection on Sacramento’s white elite leaders, or the Sacramento Police Department. Sacramento PD spokesman Officer Matthew McPhail said the department “strongly discourages” such citizen patrols due to safety concerns.

Newsflash Officer McPhail, it probably can’t get any less safe in South Sacramento. WTF???

Ag gave Brown no choice on farmworker bill

Capture

Farmers oppose Governor Brown’s High Speed Rail project. They also oppose his water diversion plans. Their opposition isn’t polite, or constructive…it’s simply hard-core in your face political brute force.

So it’s no wonder Brown, a onetime champion of farmworker causes, signed legislation granting agricultural workers the same right to overtime pay as other Californians.

Farmers gave him absolutely no reason not to.

The bill’s enactment marked a major victory for the United Farm Workers union – and a huge setback for industry interests.

Feckless Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had a chance to right this wrong, he refused and allowed the bigotry against farmworkers in California to continue. Brown has rightfully corrected that.

It’s about time California’s ag industry woke up.

More bad news for the #racist #PoliceState: Kaepernick’s making lots of friends

capture

A week after a current teammate joined Colin Kaepernick’s national-anthem protest, a college teammate followed suit.

Broncos inside linebacker Brandon Marshall became the fourth NFL player to not stand during the national anthem before Denver played Carolina tonight in the first game of the NFL’s regular season. Marshall joined 49ers safety Eric Reid and Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane.

On Aug. 27, a day after Kaepernick’s protest first gained national headlines, Marshall said he supported Kaepernick.

“I understand where he’s coming from,” Marshall told the Colorado Springs Gazette. “I definitely see what he’s saying. I support him on that. I’m not mad at him for that. Some people are bashing him on the Internet, but I’m not bashing him at all. I support him.”

Marshall took a knee during the anthem a day after Kaepernick said he thought job-security concerns could prevent a wave of players from adopting his stance.

“I think it’s something where there are a lot of players that really feel the same way,” Kaepernick said. “They’re just nervous about consequences that come along with it. A lot of them have families to feed and I think it’s a tragic situation where players aren’t comfortable speaking what’s on their mind or what’s right because they’re afraid of consequences that come along with it.”

And of course, he’s correct.

The NFL is in a real quandary…it will be interesting to see how they turn this whole situation into a money machine.

Study: Asians outpacing Latino population

capture

What would Pete Wilson do now? They keep coming, and coming! No not Latinos…Asians! Oh my!!!

The growth of the U.S. Latino population — once the nation’s fastest growing — slowed considerably over the past seven years and slipped behind that of Asian Americans amid declining Hispanic immigration and birth rates, a study released Thursday found.

The Pew Research Center study, which analyzed U.S. Census Bureau data, found that the U.S. Hispanic population grew annually on average by 2.8 percent between 2007 and 2014.

That’s down from the 4.4 percent annual growth from 2000 to 2007, before the Great Recession.

By comparison, the Asian American population grew around 3.4 percent on average annually during the same period.

Counties in the South continued to account for the largest share of the nation’s Hispanic population growth — 43 percent between 2007 and 2014.

Orange County CEO accused of human trafficking

capture

Playing out like a scene from the movie of Djngo Unchained, a San Juan Capistrano woman, the chief executive of an IT staffing company with an Irvine office, has been accused by the U.S. Labor Department of mistreating a former domestic employee, forcing her to sleep with the family dogs and work 15 1/2-hour days seven days a week.

The U.S. Department of Labor filed a complaint Aug. 22 against Himanshu Bhatia, the CEO of Rose International, which is based in Chesterfield, Mo., but has an office on MacArthur Boulevard in Irvine.

Bhatia caused Sheela Ningwal to “work and live in servitude, without any understanding of her rights as an employee or ability to adequately enforce her rights, since Ms. Ningwal’s attempts to enforce her rights resulted not only in the loss of her employment, but of food and shelter,” according to the complaint.

Ningwal is seeking a “judgment awarding unpaid back wages due under the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), plus an additional amount, as liquidated damages, that is equal to the amount of the back wages that accrued,” the complaint states.

The amount due will be determined by the court.

“I believe that she is a victim of trafficking,” Susan Seletsky, regional counsel for FLSA Litigation said. “It’s very important for all employers to pay their employees, even vulnerable workers and even if they think the workers don’t understand their rights.”

Bhatia’s business specializes in consulting and IT services. Clients in 2011 included AT&T, Chevron, Verizon and the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, according to Smart Business.

Bhatia, the complaint states, paid Ningwal, an Indian national, $400 a month plus food in exchange for housework performed seven days a week at Bhatia’s homes in San Juan Capistrano, Miami, Las Vegas and Long Beach.

She worked for Bhatia from July 2012 to December 2014.

The Labor Department said Ningwal was forced to sleep in the garage on a piece of carpet near Bhatia’s dogs while she was sick and was left without food if Bhatia left her home. Ningwal’s passport was also confiscated, according to the Department of Labor.

Bhatia fired Ningwal after she discovered the woman was researching labor laws on a computer. The worker also refused to sign a document written by Bhatia claiming a fair salary.

“The reason why she was fired by her employer is because she was trying to find out her rights,” Seletsky said. “We want all employes to know that we rely on them to report violations to us. We want them to know that if they are being subject to unfair wages, intimidation, retaliation they should file a complaint with us or a state agency.”

Sacramento’s white elites rocked by racism charge

screenshot-2016-09-07-at-06-50-48

More bad news for the white elites who run Sacramento…America’s “most diverse city.”

Black employees at City Hall face “an environment of racial discrimination and harassment,” according to a complaint filed by a black employee and backed by the California branch of the NAACP.

Human resources analyst Kimberly Isaacs, 54, filed a complaint on July 19, 2016, to the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

She alleges that she was demoted twice for an error she made and that her double punishment was based both on race and age.

City Attorney James Sanchez declined to comment on the complaint.

Isaacs’ complaint names City Manager John Shirey personally, alleging he has “created an environment of racial discrimination and harassment” throughout City Hall.

Betty Williams, legal redress chair for the California chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said that she had met with Shirey to discuss the allegations of pervasive discrimination and was not satisfied with the outcome of that conversation.

“The culture is that when it comes to African Americans, they have to jump through additional hoops to even be considered for promotions or raises,” Williams said. “It has to do a lot with salaries, a lot to do with promotions, a lot to do with benefited employment opportunities … We have the experience we have the training, but our color stops us from getting the job, that’s the perception.”

The NAACP is considering taking other actions.

Gun kook/white supremist who blasted L.A. airport pleads guilty

screenshot-2016-09-07-at-06-43-18

Paul Ciancia, 26, pleaded guilty to all 11 charges in the rampage that killed one officer and wounded two others and a teacher who was headed for a flight.

Ciancia, who showed no emotion during the hearing, was spared the death penalty by entering the plea, but he faces a mandatory life term in prison at his sentencing on Nov. 7.

Survivors of the attack and the family of the officer killed cried as prosecutors explained in detail how Ciancia carried out the Nov. 1, 2013, shooting, motivated by anger about security measures imposed on airline passengers by the U.S. Transportation and Security Administration.

Security cameras captured Ciancia opening fire on TSA agent Officer Gerardo Hernandez at a document-screening podium, wounding the 39-year-old married father of two.

As Ciancia went up an escalator to the main security screening area, he saw Hernandez move and returned to fire several more shots at point-blank range, killing Hernandez.

Ciancia then stalked more victims with a semi-automatic rifle in Terminal 3.

Police shot and wounded Ciancia in the terminal’s food court, hitting him four times.

Officers found a duffel bag Ciancia dropped that had ammunition inside and a handwritten note saying he wanted to kill at least one TSA officer but hoped to kill more.

Ciancia, who was living in the Los Angeles area after growing up in Pennsville, New Jersey, signed the note with his name, adding beneath it, “Pissed-off Patriot.”

Young blacks: Hillary “was part of the whole problem that started sending blacks to jail”

Screenshot 2016-09-05 at 07.45.54

When a handful of liberal advocacy organizations convened a series of focus groups with young black voters last month, the assessments of Donald J. Trump were predictably unsparing.

But when the participants were asked about Hillary Clinton, their appraisals were just as blunt and nearly as biting.

“What am I supposed to do if I don’t like him and I don’t trust her?” a millennial black woman in Ohio asked. “Choose between being stabbed and being shot? No way!”

“She was part of the whole problem that started sending blacks to jail,” a young black man, also from Ohio, observed about Mrs. Clinton.

“He’s a racist, and she is a liar, so really what’s the difference in choosing both or choosing neither?” another young black woman from Ohio said.

With just over two months until Election Day, many Democrats are expressing alarm at the lack of enthusiasm, and in some cases outright resistance, some black millennials feel toward Mrs. Clinton.

Their skepticism is rooted in a deep discomfort with the political establishment that they believe the 68-year-old former first lady and secretary of state represents. They share a lingering mistrust of Mrs. Clinton and her husband over criminal justice issues. They are demanding more from politicians as part of a new, confrontational wave of black activism that has arisen in response to police killings of unarmed African-Americans.

“Young people feel discouraged and apprehensive about the political process as is, and then they look at the two options in front of us,” said Mr. Prudhome, adding of Mrs. Clinton: “Nobody has seen an agenda for African-American millennials. I don’t think they believe she cares about them.”

“Gone is the day of patience,” said Tony J. Payton Jr., 35, a former Pennsylvania state representative. “No longer should we accept systemic racism.”

When African-American voters in the focus groups were shown campaign fliers and asked to rate them, there was no mistaking what was most effective.

A pamphlet with a picture of Mr. Trump that read, “We have to beat the racists,” fell flat with young black audiences.

Scoring much higher were a stark black and white handout showing the names of those killed at the hands of the police and another with images of mothers of the victims that said, “Their Children Can’t Vote, Will You?”

“It was very intentional,” Rapinoe told American Soccer Now after Seattle’s 2-2 tie in the National Women’s Soccer League game.

Screenshot 2016-09-03 at 08.31.27“It was a little nod to Kaepernick and everything that he’s standing for right now. I think it’s actually pretty disgusting the way he was treated and the way that a lot of the media has covered it and made it about something that it absolutely isn’t. We need to have a more thoughtful, two-sided conversation about racial issues in this country.”

“Being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all of your liberties. It was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it. It’s important to have white people stand in support of people of color on this. We don’t need to be the leading voice, of course, but standing in support of them is something that’s really powerful.”

Racist San Francisco Police Officers Association continues to be the butt of ridicule

Capture

Colin Kaepernick, quarterback for the 49ers, was thrust into the spotlight when the media caught wind of his refusal to stand for the national anthem at a preseason game Friday. When asked why by reporters, he said he would continue to sit until the nation makes progress on racial injustice, such as police brutality.

“I’m gonna continue to sit, I’m gonna continue to stand with the people who are being oppressed,” he told reporters. “When there’s significant change, I’ll feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent in this country.”

San Francisco’s police union brought itself into the fray earlier this week by sending a letter Monday to the 49ers and the National Football League attacking Kaepernick for his statements on the police.

CaptureThe Racist SFPD Police Officers Association went berserk. But the union faced backlash for its racist attacks against Kaepernick from protesters who converged at the union hall at 6th and Bryant streets, prompting the union to close its headquarters for the day.

“The POA letter was a disgrace,” ACLU lawyer Alan Schlosser, who called the POA a reactionary force in San Francisco, said at the protest Wednesday. “They are making it clear they are not leading the call…into 21st century policing. They want 19th century policing.”

In San Francisco, the controversy has been folded into an ongoing battle of words between the oft-vocal police union, and activists and police critics over the future of the Police Department. The union has repeatedly said there is no institutionalized racism. Everybody else on the planet knows otherwise.

Wednesday’s protesters, which included members of the ACLU, the Nation of Islam, and the Justice 4 Mario Woods Coalition, as well as San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi, called the union’s letter one more sign that it stands in the way of reform and remains unapologetic for failing to acknowledge accounts of police brutality in San Francisco and the nation.

Meanwhile, Kaepernick was lauded by protesters as one of the latest in a tradition of athletics who took a stand against racism and oppression in America.

“[The] POA suggests that these types of issues do not exist,” said John Burris, a civil rights lawyer, who called Kaepernick a “beacon” in the fight for justice. “He is another soldier, another person who says ‘enough is enough.’”

Speakers also attacked the union for ignoring data that shows the disparate treatment of people of color at the hands of police in San Francisco.

“The POA are the ones that need to be stopped,” said Deputy Public Defender Mark Jacobs, who added that the union continues to stand in the way of change.

When Minister Christopher Muhammad of the Nation of Islam addressed the union’s letter, he asked why the union was asking for Kaepernick’s apology when police in San Francisco have yet to apologize for a litany of fatal police shootings, including of Mario Woods, whose death was caught on video and sparked months of protests and calls for reform.

“Colin doesn’t have to apologize for a damn thing,” said Muhammad.

The 49ers and the NFL have said in statements that Kaepernick will not be punished for his actions.

Enjoy your Police State.

Supervisor Jane Kim a target of racists, just like Colin Kaepernick

Capture

Supervisor Jane Kim says she’s in “a slightly different position” than 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“I think more people watch ‘Monday Night Football’ than SFGov TV,” she joked, referring to the city’s channel that televises civic meetings.

But there is a connection. Kaepernick is under fire for declining to stand during the national anthem. He’s been called unpatriotic and insensitive. To which Kim can say: been there, done that.

Kim says she doesn’t feel comfortable reciting the words “with liberty and justice for all” in the Pledge of Allegiance because “I know there still isn’t justice for all.”

Freedom of speech — or in her case, freedom to not speak — is an unalienable right of all Americans.

That doesn’t mean she isn’t attacked viciously by white bigots who view civil rights as exclusive to their race.

1%er Ag Elites Panic Over Fair Wages For Farmworkers Bill

Screenshot 2016-08-30 at 07.00.08

The California Assembly on Monday sent Gov. Jerry Brown a hard-fought and historic expansion of overtime rules for farmworkers.

Wealthy farmers and other ag industry interests are scrambling to figure out a way to get Governor Brown to veto the bill.

Agricultural workers already receive some overtime pay under California law thanks to a 2002 state directive that entitles them to extra wages if they work more than 10 hours in a day or more than 60 hours in a week.

AB 1066 would expand that to bring it more in line with other industries, offering time-and-a-half pay for working more than eight hours in a day or 40 in a week and double pay for working more than 12 hours a day.

The pay boosts would kick in incrementally over four years, and the governor could suspend them for a year if the economy falters.

California has a long racist history of bigotry and oppression against farm workers. This debate exemplifies just how ferocious the aggression directed at immigrants really is.

Business groups quickly condemned the vote. “We are deeply concerned with the passage of AB 1066 today and the devastating impacts this bill will have on our small, independent farmers and the workers they employ,” said Tom Scott, state executive director of the National Federation of Independent Business.

Yeah, right. Paying people a fair day’s wages for a fair day’s work will devastate the economy. Not really.

Feds nail racist auto lenders; the @GOP howls

Capture

Marc Elliott didn’t know he’d become a player in the financial world until he received an unexpected email from a friend.

It read simply, “Did you know you just cost Ally Financial $80 million?”

His algorithm is a tool that estimates the probability that someone is white, black, Asian or Hispanic based only on their address and last name.

The feds have relied on it to accuse some of the country’s largest auto lenders, including the financing arms of Toyota and Honda, of discrimination.

Car dealerships often add an extra bit of interest, called a markup, on top of the rate charged by a lender, ostensibly to pay the dealership for its work arranging the loan. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, using Elliott’s system to look at tens of thousands of loans, has alleged that dealers charge larger markups to minority borrowers.

To Republicans who have fought to limit the agency created in the aftermath of the financial crisis, the algorithm encapsulates how the CFPB has overstepped its bounds, using a novel statistical method to indirectly regulate a class of businesses — car dealers — outside its jurisdiction.

Screwing people of color is a basic tenant of GOP policy.

Feckless @AssemblyDems become the bigots in California farmworker overtime fight

Capture

This vote should be a slam-dunk for Assembly Democrats.

Instead, tensions flared at the state Capitol on Thursday after the state Assembly abruptly adjourned without taking up its most anticipated piece of legislation of the day: a bill that would expand overtime pay for thousands of California farmworkers.

Another showdown over AB 1066, a bill authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), had been expected in the lower house after a similar proposal died in June four votes short of the majority it needed to pass.

But lawmakers said they would wait until Monday to keep working with members to garner the support. The lack of action on Thursday suggested they were having trouble mustering up the votes needed for it to pass.

So what we know is that California Assembly Democrats can be just as big a bunch of anti-Latino bigots as the Republicans.

Leaders with the United Farm Workers of America initially exchanged terse words with Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) outside the chambers over the decision to wait.

The United Farm Workers association argues the legislation addresses an injustice farmworkers have lived with since they were first exempted from federal minimum wage and overtime standards nearly eight decades ago.

Eight decades of racism. That’s what this is about.

But prominent business groups, led by the California Farm Bureau Federation and a coalition of agricultural producers, have thrown their political weight against it, saying the legislation saddles farmers and growers with higher costs.

These would be the aforementioned racists we’re referring to.

“If overtime rules change, farmers would likely adjust work schedules to avoid overtime or take other actions, such as reducing acreage, switching crops or looking for machines that can replace people,” said Dave Kranz, a spokesman from the California Farm Bureau Federation. “In any of those scenarios, unfortunately, employees would lose work hours.”

That’s what happens in a free-market economy. Farm workers know this and are apparently willing to take that chance. But this really isn’t about the free market. It’s about wealthy California farmers continuing their state protected right to treat farmworkers like slave labor. It’s time this practice was stopped.

Feds go after America’s debtors prisons

Capture

Finally, someone is doing something about this absurd Orwellian situation.

President Obama’s civil rights lawyers are seeking a potentially far-reaching ruling to hold that the Constitution forbids the common practice of keeping people in jail prior to a trial, even for minor offenses, just because they are too poor to pay for bail.

Every day, about 450,000 people are held under arrest in city and county jails because they cannot afford bail, according to the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta and Equal Justice Under Law, a Washington-based civil rights group.

Last week, the Justice Department intervened on their side in a Georgia case which challenges the use of fixed bail schedules for people who are arrested.

The Constitution forbids “punishing people for their poverty,” the government’s civil rights lawyers argued in a brief to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.

The 8th Amendment says “excessive bail shall not be required.” And the 14th Amendment, which protects the rights to liberty and equal protection of the laws, should be read to prohibit “bail practices that incarcerate indigent individuals before trial solely because of their inability to pay,” they said.

They agreed, however, that arrested people can be held if a judge believes they pose a danger if released or are likely to flee.

The Justice Department’s intervention is the latest step in a growing legal and political attack on the money bail system.

It arose in part from investigations that revealed how poor people in Ferguson, Mo., had become trapped by escalating fees and fines for relatively minor offenses.

Civil rights lawyers describe the traditional bail system as a “wealth-based detention scheme” that has largely escaped the scrutiny of the nation’s highest courts.

Oakland cops have turned harassment of African-Americans into a blood sport

Capture

In Oakland, African-Americans should expect to be stopped by police.

Last week San Francisco Chronicle reporter Bob Egelko wrote about a report that revealed police in Oakland, after a decade of federal monitoring, are still showing signs of racial disparities in enforcement.

Some 15,407 vehicles were stopped between mid-November and mid-May, and blacks were behind the wheel in 57 percent of those stops, Latinos 21 percent and whites 11 percent.

Police rifled through the cars of black drivers in 28 percent of the stops, compared with 5 percent for whites and 14 percent for Latinos.

The report was worse for black pedestrians. Of the 1,858 pedestrians stopped by police, more than two-thirds were black. According to the 2010 census, Oakland is 28 percent black.

Oakland cops are simply racists who have turned harassment of African-Americans into a blood sport.

There are law-abiding citizens of color who fear driving, anxiety that is reinforced by reports like Oakland’s. What’s happening on the streets produces terror.

The danger of driving while black is a publicly recognized risk.

Study: Orange County Whites Hate Mexicans

Capture

Back in the day, Orange County’s segregated ways kept non-white folks in their place. Brea used to be a “sundown town,” meaning blacks had to get out at dusk—or else! Whites didn’t want the Mexican Bernal family moving into their Fullerton neighborhood until he beat them in court. Anaheim’s Pearson Park had a segregated pool policy. And, of course, five Mexican families sued in Mendez, et al, v. Westminster to fight segregated OC schools. But those days are long gone, right?

A new UCLA study published last week begs to differ, finding that even with rising diversity, OC isn’t becoming an integrated shade of orange, especially when it comes to Mexicans.

With legal segregation in the ash heap of history, whites surveyed still spoke candidly of their preference to live, play and send their kids to school far away from Latinos (read: Mexicans). Oh, and they’re still scared shitless of being in SanTana!

Chosen at random, the whites surveyed ranged from 25 to 61, with most being middle- to upper-class professionals. They split almost evenly along political lines, with the slightest majority identifying as conservatives. All but two already lived in mostly white neighborhoods.

The study found that whites held attitudes that viewed Latinos as a cultural “threat,” while not harboring the same views toward OC’s Asians.

Practically all whites interviewed expressed fears about busing Latino kids into majority white schools.

The study found that whites didn’t particularly care to share beaches or public parks with Mexicans, either, echoing the views of infamous Newport Beach council member Dick Nichols.

Well, if whites in the study don’t like Mexicans at the beach, they sure hope beach city neighborhoods won’t become integrated with them.

So what do all these views mean? The study concludes that such attitudes reinforce de facto segregation for Latinos, and show no will from white respondents to challenge its residential and educational forms.

#PoliceState racism thrives in the Oakland PD

Capture

After more than a decade of federal monitoring, police in Oakland are still showing signs of racial disparities in enforcement, according to the latest report. Officers, it said, were much more likely to stop and search African Americans than whites, but found suspected contraband more often on whites.

The monitor’s report, released Thursday, said Oakland police stopped 15,407 vehicles between mid-November and mid-May. Blacks were at the wheel 57 percent of the time, whites 11 percentand Latinos 21 percent. During the same period, officers stopped 1,858 pedestrians: 69 percent of them black, 10 percent white and 15 percent Latino.

Oakland’s population, according to the 2010 census, was 28 percent black, 34.5 percent white and 25.4 percent Latino.

The report also found that police searched African American motorists and their vehicles in 28 percent of their stops, compared with 5 percent for whites and 14 percent for Latinos. During pedestrian stops, African Americans were searched 48 percent of the time, whites 21 percent and Latinos 34 percent. The figures covered only searches officers chose to conduct, at their discretion, and did not include searches required by law when a suspect was being arrested or was visibly carrying a weapon.

U.S. backing of #SaudiArabia puts America on the wrong side…again

Capture

Hundreds of thousands of people marched in Yemen’s capital Saturday in support of a new governing body announced last month by rebels and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh but quickly rejected by the United Nations and the country’s internationally recognized government.

The demonstration in rebel-held Sana, which featured people packed together holding Yemeni flags and banners, backed the Higher Political Council supported by Houthi rebels and Saleh, who stepped down in 2012 as a result of the Arab Spring protests.

A coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia and supported by the United States intervened in Yemen in 2015 to help fight the Shiite Muslim rebels, who had forced President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi into exile. The coalition is fighting to reinstate Hadi.

The official Saudi Press Agency issued a statement Saturday saying the formation of the council made “the search for a peaceful solution more difficult by unconstitutional and unilateral actions” in Sana.

“These actions only increase the divisions in Yemen and will not address the political, economic, and security problems that are causing such widespread suffering throughout the country,” the statement said.

More than 6,500 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the fighting between rebels and the Saudi-led coalition, according to the U.N.

Footage posted by activists on social media showed crowds pouring into Sana’s Sabeen square, waving flags and shouting slogans in support of the council.

As usual, America picks the wrong side…again.

Feds reject San Francisco’s phony, #racist housing plan

Capture

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has rejected San Francisco’s neighborhood housing preference plan.

In a letter to Olson Lee, who heads up the city’s Office of Housing and Community Development, Gustavo Velasquez, HUD’s assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity, said San Francisco’s plan could “limit equal access to housing and perpetuate segregation” in violation of the 1968 Fair Housing Act.

Wow! This is worth repeating again: HUD’s assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity, said San Francisco’s plan could “limit equal access to housing and perpetuate segregation” in violation of the 1968 Fair Housing Act.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed the neighborhood preference plan in December after months of debate on how to craft a law that would ensure new affordable housing units would be available to current neighborhood residents.

What a crock. The “preference plan” was nothing more than a blatant and racist grab by developers and their 1%er pals to push minorities out of the city, and herd those remaining into ghettos.

While HUD doesn’t have a say in approving the marketing plan of projects it doesn’t directly fund, the agency is also responsible for upholding the Fair Housing Act. In that role, HUD could seek to block the city from using the neighborhood preference program in private and city-subsidized developments that do not receive federal funding. The state could also follow HUD’s lead and refuse to fund projects that use neighborhood preferences.

Is #SanFrancisco the most #racist place on the planet?

Capture

Is San Francisco the most racist place on the planet? It’s hard to believe otherwise.

Defendants are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty in America’s court system, but some in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office seem to think otherwise.

In a series of court cases heard Monday morning in San Francisco Superior Court, defendants were listed on a sign-in sheet as “bad guys.”

The handwritten witness list, believed to have originated in the District Attorney’s Office, was obtained by the San Francisco Examiner from the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office.

In racist San Francisco, you’re guilty until proven innocent…which hardly ever happens.

A representative from the San Francisco Superior Court has not not commented on the matter.

More incriminating video: Psycho cops brutalize black teens on BART

Capture

“I just watched 4 BART officers arrest 2 Black children at the Embarcadero Station after an old white male antagonized them with racial slurs and then had the audacity to call the cops on them knowing damn well what will happen to those kids next.”

“Witnesses are frantically trying to explain this to the cops as two of them are holding the kid down on his stomach and jamming his knee into his back.”

Bystanders can be heard screaming “get off of him,” “he wasn’t doing nothing,” and “police brutality.”

An officer drew a weapon during the incident.

“Someone yelled, ‘get your knee off his back! You’re going to break it!’

This hell of a scene took over 10 minutes. 10 minutes of begging and yelling for justice without anything happening,” she posted online.

“At one point, everybody suddenly stepped away and we saw that the cop pulled out a gun (WHY?!?!). My legs trembled as I was sure that the cops were gonna open fire on these kids.”

Loretta Sanchez says race a factor in Obama’s endorsement of Kamala Harris

Capture

Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchez, in an interview aired on Univision 19 Friday, injected race in explaining away President Barack Obama’s endorsement of U.S. Senate rival Kamala Harris, whose father is Jamaican.

Sanchez was asked why the president had endorsed Harris in the unusual race between two Democrats this year. Speaking in Spanish, she noted that Obama and Harris are longtime friends, then added: “She is African American. He is, too.”

Her remarks come days after she ripped Obama for endorsing Harris, arguing he should be focused on helping Democrats win the presidential race rather than inserting himself in a contest between two party members.

White supremist targets #SFPD chief

Capture

San Francisco finally gets a decent police chief and now this.

A white supremist who made a racist Twitter threat against San Francisco’s acting police chief, Toney Chaplin, was taken into custody.

Donald Eric Hoganson, 60, was detained from his home on the 2600 block of Ortega Street on Monday.

Authorities said they identified him as the person behind the Twitter account, @BethesdaSavior, which has promoted white supremacy and posted images of swastikas and lynchings.

On Saturday, the account posted a tweet that called for beheading “this black man” and included a photo of the chief beside a photo of a guillotine and a photo of a sign reading, “White Trade Only.”

In 2002, Hoganson was indicted for allegedly threatening to kill an FBI agent outside the Sacramento office.

Sheriff Scott Jones — a sex perv too? What’s next???

Capture

As if his command doesn’t have enough problems already.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones was accused of making unwanted sexual advances toward a subordinate, activity he denied in a sworn statement, according to newly uncovered court documents from a lawsuit against the Sheriff’s Department claiming retaliation.

Tosca Olives, at the time a 26-year-old sheriff’s deputy, said Jones, then a sergeant in legal affairs, was acting as her unofficial supervisor in the law library of the Main Jail in 2003. She said the contact started with Jones rubbing her shoulders while she took work-related phone calls.

Over two years, she said in a deposition, the touching intensified to him reaching under her shirt. Olives said they engaged in mutual kissing and she contends Jones unzipped her pants and felt between her legs.

Jones said he never had romantic or sexual interest in Olives and, except once, “never had any physical contact with her of an intimate nature.”

The #KKK ramps up recruiting effort in San Francisco

CaptureA flyer circulating in San Francisco’s Haight neighborhood is recruiting people to join the Ku Klux Klan.

The flyer is being distributed around Haight and Clayton and Oak and Lyon streets.

“Black Lives Matter Black Panthers are telling followers to kill white people and police officers in the name of justice for the killing of negro’s by policemen in the line of duty,” the flyer states. “These negro’s were not innocent, they were thugs breaking the law, and standing up against police.”

The flyer invites people to join the KKK “before it’s too late.”

It lists a phone number and two websites for “The Loyal White Knights of the KKK.”

The number went to voice mail, which opens by saying “White racial greetings and thank you for calling the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.”

The voice mail goes on to quote two Bible verses.

Park Station Capt. John Sanford said toward the end of one of the station’s scheduled meetings Tuesday night that the department learned of the flyer through the media.

“If someone decides that they want to recruit for the KKK, they have a right to do that. That is not considered illegal activity,” Sanford said.

POST pimps for racist sex perv cops in Oakland

Capture

POST is a wholly owned subsidiary of the police unions. To expect anything honest out of this organization would be absurd.

It was hard to imagine the ongoing saga of the Oakland Police Department, which includes a sex scandal, racist text messages and serial police chiefs, could get any more bizarre.

Then a state agency on Monday stuck its nose into the affair by publicly challenging the legality of Mayor Libby Schaaf’s decision to appoint her civilian city administrator to oversee the turmoil-ridden department.

It seems that the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training fired first and then tried to ascertain the facts. It was a highly unprofessional intrusion from an agency that’s supposed to set professional standards.

As a result, the mayor and her staff, already managing a Police Department crisis, were forced to defend against an unsubstantiated accusation that dominated the news cycle for an afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Police Department was spinning out of control with allegations that cops had relations with an underage sex worker, a drunken off-duty officer assaulted a county probation officer at her home and officers exchanged racist text messages.

It’s unclear whether POST, an agency dominated by law enforcement, was simply sloppy or wanted for political reasons to block a civilian from running a police force.

Either way, POST created an unnecessary distraction as the mayor is dealing with a very serious situation.

Family of Luis Góngora, murdered by an @SFPD #DeathSquad, files claim

Screenshot 2016-06-18 at 08.49.15

Relatives of a homeless man fatally shot in April by a pair of San Francisco police officers who quickly opened fire on him after they spotted him on a Mission District street, allegedly armed with a knife, filed a wrongful-death claim against the city Friday.

The claim centers on the speed with which the officers resorted to deadly force: video footage, first obtained by The Chronicle, showed less than 30 seconds elapsed between the time officers left their squad cars and when they fired seven bullets at 45-year-old Luis Góngora. The claim is a precursor to a lawsuit against the city, the family’s attorneys said.

Civil rights attorney John Burris, who is representing the family, cited witnesses who saw Góngora sitting down with his back against a wall when officers arrived and said he did not behave in an aggressive way.

Sacramento, a culturally diverse city run by elite white people

Screenshot 2016-06-10 at 07.12.02

Sacramento is one of America’s most diverse cities. But an audit released Thursday shows many departments at Sacramento City Hall – and most of the city’s management ranks – don’t reflect that diversity.

While 35 percent of the city’s population is white, 65 percent of managers at City Hall are white, according to the audit. And of the 152 employees in management positions making more than $120,000 a year, 70 percent are white.

The audit also identified a gender gap in management pay: Just 35 of the 152 city managers making at least $120,000 a year are women.

The report was particularly critical of the Police Department, where 76 percent of the uniformed officers are white. Slightly more than half the city’s 4,846 employees are white, according to the report.

“It’s very apparent that city employees don’t mirror the community,” Councilman Jay Schenirer said at a City Council budget and audit subcommittee meeting Thursday.

#Mellinial voters could pull #racist Orange County out of the Stone Age

Screenshot 2016-06-06 at 09.25.43

It appears that all those nauseating racist memes depicting the Obamas with primates aren’t working for the California GOP any longer…change is good after all.

In the Cali’s bigot bastion, Orange County, millennials – those 18 to 34 years old – favor the Democratic Party over the GOP, 36 percent to 26 percent.

As recently as 2002, that age group favored the GOP in Orange County, 42 percent to 29 percent. Young people’s share of unaffiliated voters increased from 22 percent to 32 percent over that period.

Additionally, young voters are more likely to support gay marriage, immigration reform and legalized marijuana – positions more aligned with the Democratic Party.

Not all millennials are steering clear of the GOP. But even those who embrace the Republican Party often have views that diverge from their parents’ generation of Republicans.

In other words, they aren’t patently racist.

In Orange County, half of all new registrations since the beginning of the year have been millennials.

Bigot Sheriff Scott Jones ratchets up pressure against women, African-Americans

Sacramento County attorneys will ask a judge to overturn a multimillion-dollar verdict against the county and its racist Sheriff’s Department for retaliation against four of its own and set a new trial in the civil suit.

Sacramento County officials announced the anticipated decision on Friday, hours before a deadline to file post-trial motions in the case.

Sacramento Superior Court jurors in May awarded nearly $3.6 million to four veteran female deputies. The plaintiffs included two lieutenants and a sergeant who attributed a stroke she suffered to an internal affairs investigation into allegations that were later determined to be unfounded.

Advocates argued that farmworkers should be entitled to the same protections as workers in many other segments of the economy who draw extra pay for working long hours. Many cast the debate in terms of a broad historical pursuit of social justice, drawing parallels to slavery, sharecroppping and the farmworkers’ rights movement that gripped California decades ago.

Will Sacramento voters send a bigot to Congress?

Screenshot 2016-05-30 at 07.12.33

It was a damning verdict, one of the strongest rebukes against local law enforcement in recent memory.

A Sacramento County jury didn’t simply award four women $3.6 million in their lawsuit against the leadership of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

It ruled against the culture within the Sheriff’s Department in a way no local elected official would dare, sizing up Sheriff Scott Jones and the top men in the hierarchy below him and saying: We don’t believe you.

If the public can’t be confident in how this department follows labor laws and its own policy directives, how can it be confident in how it enforces any laws?

The San Diego Padres have taken heat this week following a “so called” control room mishap that left the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus voiceless at Saturday night’s game at Petco Park.

Mishap…yeah right. No reasonable person would believe this b*llshit.

The chorus had assembled on the field before Saturday’s match, waiting to perform along with their recording of the national anthem. But a recording by a female singer played instead.

Wonder how that happened…?!!!

The team has issued an apology for the “mistake.” Seriously???

The loud chorus of boos at Petco Park pretty much tells us all we need to know about the character of San Diego.

Cali’s brutal #racist assault on Native Americans

Screenshot 2016-05-23 at 09.09.14

Between 1846 and 1870, California’s Indian population plunged from perhaps 150,000 to 30,000. Diseases, dislocation and starvation caused many of these deaths, but the near-annihilation of the California Indians was not the unavoidable result of two civilizations coming into contact for the first time. It was genocide, sanctioned and facilitated by California officials.

Neither the U.S. government nor the state of California has acknowledged that the California Indian catastrophe fits the two-part legal definition of genocide set forth by the United Nations Genocide Convention in 1948.

It is not an exaggeration to say that California legislators also established a state-sponsored killing machine.

Racist San Francisco’s #bigot police chief finally resigns – hallelujah!

Screenshot 2016-05-20 at 08.29.28

To the community activists who broke up meetings with chants calling for his resignation, former San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr was a symbol of an antiquated and unaccountable way of policing.

And they were right.

In his five years as chief, Suhr, 57, oversaw 21 fatal officer-involved shootings, two scandals involving officers exchanging racist and homophobic text messages, an epidemic of car burglaries that made national news, and at least two allegations of retaliating against subordinates.

San Francisco should be ashamed of its police force.

Sheriff Scott Jones tries desperately to save his wrecked campaign, career

Screenshot 2016-05-20 at 08.15.48

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said he is committed to moving his department forward after this week’s multimillion-dollar judgment awarded to four female sheriff’s deputies who said they were retaliated against by superior officers under his watch, even as county attorneys plan to appeal the jurors’ verdict.

Blah, blah, blah…he’s simply doing what his campaign handlers asked him to do in a desperate attempt to save his wrecked political career. The reality is, he’s been a racist and a bigot his whole career…how could he possibly change now?

The comments Thursday were among Jones’ first public statements since jurors on Tuesday awarded Lts. Annica Hagadorn and Dawn Douglas, Sgt. Tracie Keillor and Deputy Jodi Mendonca nearly $3.6 million in their six-year-old bias and retaliation lawsuit.

With the verdict, speculation swirled about its effect on Jones’ political hopes in what is expected to be a closely contested congressional race between the twice-elected sheriff and the incumbent, Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove.

Ya think!

Jones, a Republican, took some well deserved heat Wednesday from critics, including the spokeswoman for Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, who accused him of disrespecting women.

It’s time for Sacramento County to drop its policy of harboring stupid racist cops at the highest level of the Sheriff’s Department.

Jurors repudiate Scott Jones testimony – Four female sheriff’s deputies awarded millions in damages

Jurors rejected lengthy testimony from Sheriff Scott Jones. “We found a lot of retaliation,” said juror Sheryl Daverio.

In a stunning decision, Sacramento jurors sided with four female sheriff’s deputies claiming their Sheriff’s Department superiors retaliated against them for speaking out against discrimination and preferential treatment in their ranks.

Jurors awarded more than $3.57 million in damages to the four plaintiffs, including more than $3.2 million to Sheriff’s Sgt. Tracie Keillor, who was stricken by a 2013 stroke she said was triggered by the stress of a department internal affairs investigation into her alleged tampering with electronic personnel records. Keillor was later cleared of wrongdoing.

Santa Ana struggles with brutal #racist ICE contract for jail detainees, immigrants

Screenshot 2016-05-18 at 09.51.39

Hearing from dozens of speakers at both extremes on the detention of transgender immigrants at Santa Ana Jail – from LGBT activists on a hunger strike to anti-illegal immigrant Donald Trump supporters – City Council members on Tuesday took the middle road.

Council members unanimously voted to terminate a contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – but not immediately, as some activists pressured with a hunger strike. Santa Ana Jail has 200 spots for ICE detainees, regardless of sexual orientation. It houses some gays and bisexuals and in 2012 opened the nation’s first dedicated module for transgender ICE detainees.

With members feeling the city should not be in the business of jailing immigrants, the council directed the city not to renew the contract set to expire June 30, 2020, and not to end it earlier without a viable way to pay off the $24.3 million jail facility debt that ICE dollars are going toward.

Elite Westside private school full of little #racist jerks

Screenshot 2016-05-18 at 09.29.41

An elite Westside private school said Tuesday that it is investigating a video showing students singing the lyrics of a rap song containing profanity and offensive language about women and African Americans.

The video emerged on YouTube this week as part of a campaign on change.org demanding that the Brentwood School deal with the video and what organizers said are other racial issues on campus. It’s unclear when the video was recorded.

“Brentwood has done nothing other than offer to ‘talk to them.’ If these kids weren’t in their socioeconomic position, of their racial heritage, or considered “assets” to the community (based on social status and/or their parents’ wealth), consequences would be different,” the petition states.

“Brentwood claims to value diversity and acceptance, but their lack of action demonstrates otherwise. This is just another example of their white favoritism.”

Brentwood is considered one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious schools. This year, base tuition for grades 7-12 was $37,725.

#BlackLivesMatter is fed up with being brutalized by the @LAPD

Screenshot 2016-05-18 at 09.07.58

Thug cops brutalize African-Americans as a matter of course. In the view of the Police State, black lives don’t matter.

Angry over arrests at recent public meetings, a group of Black Lives Matter activists gathered outside the Los Angeles Police Department’s downtown headquarters Tuesday morning, saying the arrests would not deter their calls for police reform.

About two dozen activists — most wearing signs asking, “Are you going to arrest me too?” — blasted the arrests at Police Commission meetings, accusing the board of infringing upon their free-speech rights and unfairly targeting them for criticizing the LAPD.

“They are setting this city up to be sued,” said Nana Gyamfi, an attorney representing local Black Lives Matter organizers. “We ask and we demand that these false arrests stop.”

So called disruptions have become common at the board’s weekly meetings, where activists have spent months criticizing how police use force and calling for the firing of Chief Charlie Beck. The meetings are frequently interrupted when activists chant the names of people killed by Los Angeles police officers. Some people in the audience have aimed personal attacks at the police commissioners, sometimes using racial slurs.

Feckless @SaudiArabia lied about U.S. investments

Screenshot 2016-05-17 at 07.31.39

The Saudis lie, and American pols covers for them.

The Treasury Department on Monday opened the curtain on one of our longest-lasting, and strangest, state secrets: how much U.S. debt does Saudi Arabia own?

The answer, as of March, is $116.8 billion. That may sound like a lot, but it places the Saudis only at 13th on the list of major foreign holders of treasuries. Leading the roll among the foreign holders of $6.3 trillion in securities are mainland China ($1.245 trillion) and Japan ($1.137 trillion).

The Saudi holdings have been concealed by the U.S. government since the mid-1970s, when they were folded into a bulk figure attributed to 15 “oil exporting countries.”

The maneuver was regarded as a big diplomatic favor to the Saudis during the oil embargo, when the U.S. felt it needed as many friends as it could get among oil-producing countries.

Last month, when the feckless Saudis threatened to sell “up to $750 billion” in treasuries and other U.S. assets in retaliation for a bill in Congress that could increase its liability in court for the 9/11 attacks.

It’s obvious that the Saudis owned nowhere near that much.

This unbelievable stuff is right out of Django Unchained.

A federal jury in Los Angeles has found two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies guilty of beating a jail inmate and falsifying records to hide it.

The deputies were among the latest to be convicted of the more than 20 current or former sheriff’s employees charged in connection with a probe of corruption and abuse in the Sheriff’s Department.

The jury on Monday found Jason Branum and Bryan Brunsting guilty of three charges apiece including conspiracy to violate civil rights.

They could get up to 40 years in prison…they deserve every second of it.

Prosecutors say the men beat the inmate because he showed them disrespect in front of a trainee.

Former Sheriff Lee Baca pleaded guilty in February to lying to federal investigators during the broad investigation into the jail system. He’s awaiting sentencing.

Bigot, thy name is Texas

Screenshot 2016-05-16 at 08.39.12

Let’s send Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick a plane ticket to California. Because after Patrick got national attention for his insensitive comments about transgender kids, he needs to visit San Francisco for some remedial education about what it means to be transgender.

Patrick not only opposes new federal guidelines issued Friday that require public schools to allow students to use the locker rooms and bathrooms that match the gender with which they identify, he also said, “I believe it is the biggest issue facing families and schools in America since prayer was taken out of public schools.”

Apparently, Patrick feels it’s bigger than how 1 of every 4 kids in Texas lives in poverty. Bigger than how 1 in 8 kids there doesn’t have health insurance.

Maybe it’s true that everything is bigger in Texas. Except the minds of its lieutenant governors.

It could be easy to kiss this off as shameless election-year fearmongering by a former talk-radio host who thinks creationism should be taught in the public schools. But it’s darker than that. Patrick is ginning up a culture war by exploiting the pain of some of the culture’s most vulnerable members — transgender children.
